One Direction and the charity Stand Up to Cancer have announced that a portion of the proceeds from One Direction’s 2014 “Where We Are” tour will be donated to Stand Up to Cancer. The announcement was made via a press release on May 24, 2013.
One Direction’s Liam Payne commented in the press release: “We’re so proud to be supporting Stand Up to Cancer while touring the UK and Ireland. Cancer affects nearly everyone at some point in their lives so we all need to do what we can to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
Stand Up to Cancer is all about bringing people together as a collective force and we hope our fans will get involved too. We’d love for One Direction fans to tell us about their support by using the hashtag #1DStandUp.”
Stand Up to Cancer director Claire Rowney added: “We’re over the moon that One Direction have chosen to support Stand Up to Cancer. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research specifically designed to have an impact within just a few years, bringing new and kinder treatments to patients sooner. We want to thank them and their fans for their support.”
One Direction’s 2014 tour will be the group’s first stadium tour and will include One Direction’s first concerts in South America. So far, the announced dates for the tour are in South America, the U.K. and Ireland.
One Direction came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010, and has since become the biggest-selling global act to emerge from “The X Factor.” The group has had No. 1 hits and sold-out tours in several countries.
One Direction’s first two albums (“Up All Night” and “Take Me Home”) made history and the Guinness Book of World Records, because both albums debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. on the Billboard 200 chart. One Direction is the only British group to have its first two albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
As previously reported, One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson confirmed in a Daily Star Sunday interview that One Direction’s third album will be released in 2013. The album’s title and release date are to be announced.
One Direction is currently on the European leg of its 2013 “Take Me Home” world tour. Many of the concerts on the tour sold out a year in advance. The tour is also going to North America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
The 3-D documentary “One Direction: This Is Us” is expected to be the biggest documentary of 2013. The movie (directed by Oscar nominee Morgan Spurlock) opens in U.K. cinemas on Aug. 29, 2013, and in other countries on Aug. 30, 2013.
