I recently found Paganica on golfnow.com for an incredibly low $12 for 18 holes with cart. Though the regular rate for 18 and a cart is quite high, it definitely is worth whatever coupon you can find for the course.
The course itself was fairly well groomed for the discounted price, it is definitely not worth the weekday rate of $47 for 18 with a cart and add two dollars to that for the weekend. However, the course will honor any Wisconsin golf course coupon you may find.
Fairways were a little furry when I started my round, the grounds crew was in the process of mowing that morning. Keep in mind I played this Wednesday, May 29 and the previous weekend was quite warm and rainy. It also was a holiday weekend so the grounds staff may have had a few days off.
Tee boxes were of appropriate length. Not so tall that it felt like you were teeing up in the first cut of rough, but also not so short that you felt like you were hitting off the green.
The greens were groomed fairly well. They weren’t furry like the greens I remember for the no longer existing Old Highlander at Olympia resort in Oconomowoc, but they were kind of slow. This too could have been from the extensive amount of rain the night before. One thing I did notice about this course, the greens are like postage stamps. Unlike many courses in the greater Milwaukee area, these green are one club greens, meaning if you are sitting 150 out use a club appropriate for that distance because whether the pin is in the front, middle or back of the green you will not have a long putt if you hit middle center of it. You can hold these greens from a significant distance out; two hundred yard out shots will hold the green with moderate spin.
Overall not a bad course to play. It is challenging only because you have to be very accurate with approach shots and if you play during wet or moist conditions don’t expect much run out of any shot you take. Find a coupon and check it out, but don’t pay full price, you’ll feel like you wasted some money if you do.
