One of the most entertaining and astounding films of recent memory; hits shelves on August 27th, 2013. Directed by Michael Bay, “Pain & Gain” is the true story of two body builders (Daniel Lugo and Adrian Doorbal) and how their ego’s to find success makes them bite off more than they can chew. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Mackie, and Dwayne Johnson; the movie takes you on a unique ride. Comedy, drama, suspense, and shock are all combined. There is no way to prepare for the story you see.
I went to the theater not knowing what to expect with this movie. It seems interesting but I knew almost nothing about the plot. Interestingly, the trailer does little to explain what the movie was about. What’s more frightening, is the movie is based on a true story. Some of the names have even been changed to protect the real life victims.
The story follows Daniel Lugo (Walhberg) and his ambitions to become monetarily successful. His ego is intact from the get go. The man works out religiously, and has no problem getting others to become customers at the gym. As a personal trainer he has the gift of gab to cater to anyone’s ego. For him his talents should be paying off in the millions. When he goes to a self help seminar, it pushes him to the extreme. He is determined to be successful, and nothing will stop him. His workout friend Adrian Doorbal, (Mackie) has the same idea but needs to become motivated. Lugo gives him all the inspiration he needs. A convicted felon and workout warrior in Paul Doyle ( Johnson) balances everything for the two men.
When Lugo trains multimillionaire Victor Kershaw, he sees his opportunity. He feels that Victor does not have the drive or the intelligence he has to be successful. A plan to kidnap and extort Kershaw is in motion. When the three men think with their ego’s instead of their heads, things go terribly wrong. Atrocities occur that are unimaginable, other than in the fiction world. The characters become more and more wreck less and desperate.
This might be the most entertaining movie I’ve viewed this year. I had no expectations and was blown away .With Hollywood creativity waning, “Pain & Gain” is a breath of fresh air.
For the blu ray release there are no special features.Only included is a Combo Pack (Blu Ray/Dvd/Digital copy). It’s a shame because if you look up the true story it is interesting. I thought there would be features to explore that.
This is a must see movie. Get your popcorn ready and pick it up on August 27th, 2013.
