The New Albany studio will become the 16th Uptown Art location with its grand opening celebration on Saturday, June 1st. With complete step-by-step instructions by a local artist, watch your white board swirl with colors in only two or three hours. While you mingle with friends and enjoy appetizers and drinks, you’ll discover a hidden talent you never knew at Uptown Art.
I recently had the opportunity to take a two-hour class, painting Heart in the Sand. Having zero artistic talent and unknown expectations, I knew I wanted something simple and stress-free. As I pumped colors from the paint station and examined the sample painting more closely, I grew concerned that my future picture involved a few more color shadings than what I anticipated. Our group’s instructor, Morgan, put all of my worries to rest. Not only did she have a great sense of humor, but she reassured the class that any mistake or anything we didn’t like can be changed. “Nothing is permanent with acrylic paint,” she said, “You just ignore and paint over.” Morgan comforted novices in the group, like me, stating that this class was for fun, no two pictures would be alike, and anyone can paint. The entire staff at Uptown Art was accommodating, upbeat, and patient. At the end of the two hours, we were encouraged to stand back and admire our masterpieces. Our instructor was right. The class was a blast and even I could create a painting.
Uptown Art Uncorked opened in Louisville in 2011 by Chad Coulter and his wife, Lauren. The Louisville studio in the Upper Highlands is one of Uptown Art’s premier locations. Coulter attributes its continued success due to its ideal location as well as to the variety of local themes offered. Many of the paintings have a Louisville or Kentucky connection, such as the Fleur de Lis, Churchill Downs, and most recently, celebrating the Cardinals’ NCAA victory.
