Although many people assume that Chicago’s fine dining options are all downtown or in Lincoln Park, there are many great examples of epicurean mastery in the smaller, tucked away neighborhoods. Likewise, the assumption is that the epicenters of Asian cooking are just off Cermak or Argyle. Again, it’s good to dig a little deeper.
Pasteur, located on the North Side, in the Edgewater neighborhood, is a prime example of Asian fine dining in Chicago – and without all the congestion that comes with the hustle-and-bustle of the aforementioned hotbeds. It’s also a fantastic wine destination. The food-and-wine acumen of Pasteur will be on display on Thursday, June 6, when the restaurant will host Miramar Estate Vineyards and Winery.
Special guest Robert Salz, national sales manager for the Miramar Estate, will lead the event. He will discuss how Miramar’s Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir pairs with Vietnamese cuisine. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. With a $60 per person charge, inclusive of tax and gratuity, having three courses of passed appetizers, plus three more sit-down dinner courses represents a great value, which is precept this fine restaurant respects.

Fresh rice paper roll with poached shrimp and fresh herbs, served with a plum sauce, topped with ground peanuts.
Steamed chicken dumplings, served with a light ginger and scallion soy dipping sauce.
Cha Gio Ca (Salmon Egg Rolls)
Salmon with fresh dill in an egg-based wrap with cellophane noodles and woodear mushrooms, served with fresh lettuce, herbs, fish sauce and sweet and sour sauce.
Seared Duck Breast
Slices of duck breast drizzled with a light tamarind sauce.
