Us Weekly reported on July 26, 2013 that Paula Deen is fighting new allegation from the woman she called her soul sister Dora Charles.
Charles has spent the last 22 years working for Deen as her head cook at her famous restaurant The Lady and Sons.
Charles was at Deen’s side when she started her career catering, and then helping her launch her restaurant The Lady and Sons in Savannah, Ga.
However she wasn’t just her cook, she was her trusted confidant Charles claims.
She is the person that helped Deen create recipes, train cooks and also approve all the food before going out to customers.
Charles 59 said that Deen used racial slurs at the restaurant and made African American employees feel uncomfortable at the establishment.
Charles says Deen asked her to wear Aunt Jemima clothing and to go outside and ring the bell saying “come and get it.”
She said she told Deen no; she would not do it, so Deen had another African American female employee ring the bell.
Dora claims that Paula reneged on her word of telling her “Dora I promise you, if I get rich, you’ll get rich”.
Well there is no doubt that Deen 66 had built a successful financial empire, until recently when she was fired from the Food Network for her use of the word n—er.
Once the Food Network fired her it became a domino effect as multiple endorsements pulled away from Deen.
Over the past month Deen has come under fire for her use of the word n—er in the work place.
A former employee Lisa Jackson who is Caucasian has accused Paula and her brother Bubba from Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House in Savannah, Ga. for their derogatory racial and sexual comments.
Charles says years after Deen was well known and popular on the Food Network she was still paying her $10 per hour.
However Paula’s press team begs to differ stating that Charles is being greedy, for more money and not being satisfied with all the money Deen has given her over the years in helping her out.
Deen’s camp says Charles was paid a salary of $70,000 per year including benefits and profit sharing.
Deen’s spokesperson claims for more than 20 years Charles has been paid a fair salary for the work she’s performed and that she is trying to cash in like the last accuser.
The spokesperson for Deen said this has nothing to do with racial comments, but all about the money.
Deen’s press team feels that Charles was not a sincere friend to Deen because she is attacking her while she is down and fighting to regain her credibility.
