Paula Deen has been hit quite hard by major corporations causing her to rethink some of her own business relationships. In the latest news report from Celebrity Gossip on July 6 Paula announced that she has severed her ties with her agent who has been by her side for the past decade. Her agent, Barry Weiner has helped her over the years with deals and endorsements from many entities that have resulted in building her career and empire to what it is today.
Unfortunately for Paula her trying times seem to be ten-fold lately. A man named Thomas Paculis, currently a New York resident who former resided in Georgia was arrested on July 5 by the FBI and the local sheriff’s office on charges of extortion. It is said that he allegedly sent Deen an email stating he had information that would bring her to financial ruin. In that email he demanded an amount of $250,000. If she didn’t pay him he would go public with whatever news he proclaimed he had that could ruin Paul Deen if he released that information to the media.
A federal court hearing is scheduled for July 16 in Savannah, Georgia.
We have all heard news these past weeks where contracts that Paula Deen had with the Food Network, Smithfield Foods, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Novo Nordisk, Target, Kmart, Sears, J.C. Penny and Walgreens have all cancelled their contracts and refuse at this time to do business with her. QVC is in the process of discussing if their company will be added to the list of corporations that have turned against her.
Paula Deen created a new cookbook titled “Paula Deen’s New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up” hit the number one spot topping the best-sellers list for preorders on Amazon. Despite the popularity of this new cookbook installment, Ballantine Books, a division of Random House has also announced they will not be publishing her newest cookbook which was scheduled for release this October.
There also have been reports that there is much controversy as to the origin of the whole legal matter that has engulfed Paula these past few weeks. In a deposition motion the following statement was released: “Jackson’s deposition also puts the lie to her allegations regarding Paula Deen,” Hiers’ motion stated. “Jackson testified that she has never heard Paula Deen make a racist remark, other than when she described the clothing she’d like the wait staff to wear at her brother’s wedding. “
However, this puts a different light on Lisa Jackson’s claims which seems to now have less merit. Plus she doesn’t recall Paula ever using racial slurs.
How much truth is in all the allegations against Paula Deen? Has the media and other avenues taken something said once decades ago and blown it out of proportion?
Do you think it is fair that all those major corporations are treating her so cruelly after years of doing business with her while increasing their financial gain when the celebrity chef blew the top off the ratings with her show, books and products?
Will Paula Deen get her life back in order and continue to share her traditions, dreams, recipes and more with her devoted fans who remain faithful to her?
