The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for areas such as food safety, water quality, and pesticide applicator training within the United States. The EPA also contributes to food security throughout the world
The EPA’s definition of a pesticide is as follows: “Any agent used to kill or control undesired insects, weeds, rodents, fungi, bacteria, or other organisms. Pesticides are classified according to their function: insecticides control insects; rodenticides control rodents; herbicides control weeds; and fungicides control fungi, mold and mildew. Herbicides are the most widely used type of pesticide in agriculture, although pest problems and their management vary widely throughout the country, depending on climate, soil types and other factors. Nevertheless, these chemicals also pose some risks if used improperly or too frequently.”

The best way to avoid consuming pesticides along with your food is to eat organic produce, meat, and dairy products. Organic food is grown and processed without being treated with pesticides. Look for the USDA-certified organic label on your foods and visit local farmers’ markets
Other techniques used by sustainable farms include crop rotation, which involves planting crops in different places each season in order to replenish nutrients removed from the soil, and intercropping rather than monoculture, a method of planting crops in close proximity. These practices help nature to break pest cycles. It also, allows the soil to naturally replenish itself, help reduce weeds, and encourage plant diversity in order to avoid insect and pest infestation.

Use these two lists to your advantage and find yourself empowered to have less pesticide chemicals for your body to have to filter and your cells be exposed to. Furthermore, discern for yourself whether the EPA has your protection as their priority.
