What’s not to love about 80’s music? Two of the most iconic and successful bands that helped define the beloved decade of music — the Go-Go’s and the B-52s — will remind us just what we do love about the ‘80’s when they perform together right here on the Valley for one night only, July 12.
The Go-Go’s, formed in 1978, made history as the first all-female group to top the Billboard charts that wrote their own songs and played their own instruments. Their debut album, Beauty and the Beat is a soundtrack for a generation (that just happens to mine) and the record spent six consecutive weeks at number one with hits like “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Head Over Heels” and “We Got the Beat”.
Other songs like “Vacation,” and a slew of solo hits for front-woman, Belinda Carlisle like “Mad About You,” and a collaboration guitarist Jane Wiedlan did with a fantastic band, Sparks called “Cool Places” would leave a lasting mark on my heart and always remind me of my days as a carefree teenager.
The B-52s will always have a fond spot in my memories. As a 13-year-old at her first dance, I remember “Rock Lobster” was the first song they played and somehow the silliness of that song broke the ice and made it OK to dance and have fun, good times for sure – something I am sure the song still does today.
This “new wave” band rooted in rock and roll have continued to delight audiences over the years with iconic songs like “Rock Lobster,” “Love Shack” and “Summer of Love”; classic 80’s staples that will get any flashback party started. Other songs like “Private Idaho,” “Legal Tender” and “Roam,” are personal favorites.
Throughout a career spanning more than 35 years, the band has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. The harmonies of Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson along with the quirky genius of Fred Schneider make for fun you just can’t find anywhere else.
This is going to be one of those do-not-miss summer shows! Get your tickets today before they are all gone!
