The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a pizza recall on May 2. The Nestle Pizza Company has recalled an undetermined amount of frozen DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen products due to possible contamination of foreign matter.
The Little Chute, Wis. –based pizza firm was alerted by customer complaints after finding small fragments of plastic matter in the California Crispy Thin Crust White Pizza.
It has been determined the source has been found to be related to a lot of spinach that were used in Nestle’s production line of three additional varieties; they were included in this current recall.
The following recalled frozen pizza products have an establishment number of P-5754:
California Pizza Kitchen Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce, UPC 71921 00781; production code is 3059525952.
DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken, UPC 71921 02663; production codes are 3057525922 and 3058525921.
The following are subject to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)recall:
DiGiorno pizzeria Bianca/White Pizza, UPC 71921 91484; production code is 3068525951.
California Pizza Kitchen Crispy Thin Crust White, UPC 71921 98745; production codes are 306252951, 30625255952 and 3063525951.
According to the FDA’s recall on this,” To locate the production codes for these specific pizzas, the consumer simply needs to look for a blue or pink rectangular box on one of the side panels of the pizza box. The production code is on the second line of the printed code and is the first ten digits of the number. Consumers should look for the following production codes:
- CPK Crispy Thin Crust White: 3062525951, 3062525952 and 3063525951.
- CPK Limited Edition Grilled Chicken with Cabernet Sauce: 3059525952.
- DiGiorno Crispy Flatbread Pizza Tuscan Style Chicken: 3057525922 and 3058525921.
- DiGiorno pizzeria! Bianca/White Pizza: production code is 3068525951.
According to the FSIS, along with documented consumer complaints, one customer injury was reported – a chipped tooth resulted – after consuming one of the recalled food brands.
The affected DiGiorno and California Pizza Kitchen in this recall were distributed to retailers nationwide.
