Playing Planetside 2 is a life and death struggle of capturing points in a constantly PvP envirnoment that has the chance to go from “you’re winning” to “you’re losing in a matter of moments. Today will be an overview of one of the many class types you can be in this, ever evolving, MMOFPS.
The medic is a backline trooper that specializes in healing, reviving, and supporting the big push by some of the heavier hitters in the squad. While able to equip carbines, shotguns, and SMG’s, any player will find the addition of having C4 incredibly useful in their arsenal so as to destroy any armor that may come their way.
Another useful tool, in their limited arsenal, is the revive or heal grenade that they can cert into. The revive grenade can heal a whole room that was recently demolished by a well placed enemy C4 or grenade. The heal grenade, while also useful, is less resprected by many players stating “…it’s useless really. You already have the heal gun, so why waste the certs on the heal grenade?” The grenades you can cert into would replace the standard grenade in your inventory, leaving the player with a hard choice: More DPS or more heals?
The suit slot allows the medic to cert themselves into a high HP trooper, a fast regenerating shield, or a harder to blow up target. Nanoweave armor, the first option, grants more HP per level in the certs. It is highly recommended for players who are new to the game, and also for the medic to stay alive just that small moment longer while racing across the battlefield to revive another player.
Every medic should be in the backline and not firing over the shoulder of their squadmates, but there are times the medic MUST get in combat situations, and many weapons are at your disposal. For close range, intense single squad captures, many recommend the hailstorm SMG. It’s high rate of fire and extended magazine make it a valuable asset to the medic who doesn’t always have time to reload. While lacking long range punch, its spray and pray wrecks anything up close. Longer ranges calls for finesse. This calls upon the stopping power of the Trac5-S with underslung grenade launcher. The “noob tube” provides covering a small push forward, or destroying enemies stacked in a room. The recoil on the Trac5-S is actually a lot less painful than that of other rifles and accuracy is player specific.
There you have it. A small and helpful guide for all the tools and weapons to make yourself a successful medic on the battlegrounds of Planetside 2! Check in next time for the other classes and how best to build them as well.
