Two videos are creating quite a bit of buzz right now: Joanna Rohrback’s “prancercise” workout routine and Jessica Simpson’s throwback Thursday contribution. According to a May 31 report by CBS News, Rohrback became the newest internet celebrity by showing off her creative way to burn calories. And according to a report from the same day by the Daily News, Simpson also revealed her star power by prancing around in a pair of tight pants.
The prancercise video has become such a big internet sensation because it features something that “Gangnam Style” proved that the web absolutely loves: a wacky dance that’s easy to do. In the viral video, Joanna Rohrback tries to teach viewers her horse-inspired workout while wearing a pair of ankle weights. She describes the ’80s exercise as a “springy, rhythmic way of moving forward, similar to a horse’s gait and ideally induced by elation.”
Joanna’s appearance probably also has something to do with why the video is so popular — to work out her arms, she probably spent a few hours maneuvering her curling iron to achieve the perfect feathered hairstyle, and she has a pair of swinging ear weights to match her ankle weights. From the waist up, she looks like the typical ’80s working woman with her earrings, gigantic necklace, and coral-colored cardigan. However, from the bottom down, she looks ready to work up a sweat with her tight, white leggings and sneakers. And of course you can’t forget those ankle weights — if you’re a horse, then they’re your horse shoes.
Rohrback’s hypnotic prancercise video has gotten millions of page views on YouTube, but is it as entertaining as the one that Jessica Simpson shared for throwback Thursday?
The singer’s video featured footage from her high school days. The future star showed off some pretty smooth dance moves complete with a few spins and a back bend, so what happened to her dancing ability during the days when she was competing with Britney Spears to be a teen pop queen? With the way Jess belts out those notes, you have to wonder if “singercise” should be the next big thing — Simpson makes singing look downright exhausting. Joanna Rohrback would probably appreciate Jessica’s performance since there is a little prancing involved, and the singer also moves her arms around as she gets into the music. However, she can’t top Rohrback’s joyous prancing.
So would you consider doing the “really hot” “prancerise trot” to get in shape? Maybe Jess will give it a go when she tries to lose her pregnancy weight.
