This coming Tuesday, May 28, President Obama will visit the Jersey Shore to view the rebuilding and recovery efforts underway following Hurricane Sandy’s devastating impact along the coastline last fall, including the efforts by local businesses to prepare for the 2013 summer season, said the White House in a release to the National White House Examiner.
With Governor Chris Christie.
The last time it happened, it caused a great deal of consternation and pain in the Republican party, especially with one Mitt Romney., who was then running for President of the United States. Prior to last November’s election, Governor Christie welcomed President Obama to the Garden State with open arms and praised the president for helping to speed the federal response to the devastated coastal areas. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie started it the last October just days before the President election by saying nice things about President Obama and his handling of the Hurricane Sandy disaster recovery on ABC’s “Good Morning America.
President Obama will be touring the area of the Jersey Shore. Joined by his newest BFF (old news, of course), Governor Chris Christie. They will visit with families and business owners who have shown such resilience in the face of the destructive storm, said the White House. The highlighted part of the tour in the Jersey Shore is the extensive rebuilding efforts to date, and underscore his administration’s ongoing commitment to stand with the impacted communities as the important work of recovery continues.
The President will then make remarks at the Asbury Park Convention Hall, in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
There is sure to be rumbling once again in the Republican circles and especially from the highly partisan Fox News organization, which openly detests President Obama and has now added Governor Christie to its list.
At this point, President Obama needs Governor Christie almost as much as Governor Christie needs President Obama. At a time when President Obama is being attacked on three fronts by mostly Republicans, he needs a diversion from the IRS scandal, AP telephone surveillance and of course, the old GOP and Tea Party standby, Benghazi.
But for now, President Obama is taking the high road, traveling Sunday to Oklahoma to visit that tornado-ravaged area. While in Oklahoma, the President will see firsthand the response to the devastating tornadoes and severe weather that impacted the area on Sunday night and Monday, visit with impacted families, as well as thank first responders.
On Monday morning, the President and First Lady will host a breakfast in honor of Gold Star Families. Later in the morning on Monday, the President and First Lady will travel to Arlington National Cemetery where the President will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and deliver remarks. Then the trip to the trip to the Jersey Shore.
Will the President Obama endorse Chris Christie for Governor of New Jersey?
Come to think of it, does it really have to mouth the words. A picture is quite enough. Ask a Republican.
