Although President Obama shrugs off comparisons with the recent scandals enveloping his Administration to President Nixon’s Watergate, a video compiled by Revealing Politics shows the astounding similarities in how the respective administrations have handled the scandals.
Yesterday, David Martosko from the Daily Mail posted the viral video. Martosko noted that Nixon attempted ‘to dismiss Watergate as a distraction from more pressing presidential priorities.’ This tactic was one of many used by President Nixon to deflect attention from the Watergate scandal, which was the name for a collection of scandals that was largely exposed by journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.
The Obama Administration is currently facing heat over three main scandals:
- The Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups applying for tax exempt status for undue scrutiny,
- The Department of Justice spied on journalists who used anonymous sources,
- The White House and the State Department were shown to have had a hand in altering Benghazi talking points, which were later shown to be false.
The video, which is less than two minutes, highlights the tactics used by both administrations and shows that former President Nixon’s talking points were eerily similar to those currently being used by President Obama and those in his administration.
