Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure ridge brought another beautiful day to Providence on Wednesday. We started the day with bright sunshine, but some moisture ahead of a cold front brought limited sunshine by the late afternoon. The clouds will take over for the next couple of days, and we will see our first rainfall for the month of August.
A cold front now moving into Michigan has showers and periods of rain ahead of the front. The ridge will begin to break down early tomorrow morning and we will see overcast skies by the afternoon. I am expecting showers and rain to fall during the evening commute. Some rainfall may be heavy at times, and may cause some street flooding. The precipitation moves offshore by Friday afternoon, with some peeks of sunshine. Also, the humidity will return, so the air will fell heavier.
By the weekend, we will see more clouds than sunshine. A quick moving cold front will pass through New England on Saturday, and may help produce some showers Saturday morning through the early afternoon. By Sunday, another weak disturbance will pass just south of Rhode Island. This disturbance may help create some scattered showers during the same time period as Saturday. High pressure moves right over the state on Monday, giving us mostly sunny skies.
As we head into Tuesday, the computer models are suggesting a low pressure system will bring precipitation to our area by the afternoon. However, the models are disagreeing on whether we will see a lot of precipitation, and the exact timing of the precipitation. At this time, we will see the precipitation remain over us until Wednesday afternoon. Some drier air will move over the area, giving us limited sunshine. Temperatures will be slightly below or at normal during next week.
