Forecast discussion: A cold front to our west is helping to trigger some showers and strong thunderstorms over New Bedford at the moment. In fact, a Flood Advisory is in effect until 10:45 p.m. for Plymouth and Bristol Counties in Massachusetts, along with Newport County in Rhode Island. This is due to the chance for urban street flooding, due to heavy downpours. The precipitation will move towards the Cape before midnight.
As we move into the overnight, the cold front will stall over eastern Massachusetts. So, we will continue to see some isolated showers and thunderstorms until the late afternoon. Skies will begin to clear by Sunday night, and temperatures will fall into the lower 40’s. We will see bright sunshine on Monday and Tuesday, thanks to a strong high pressure system behind the front.
By Wednesday night, a strong warm front will move towards Southern New England, helping to slowly increase our temperatures into the upper 60’s. Along the warm front will be some scattered showers and thunderstorms that will continue into all of Thursday. The cold front will pass through Thursday night, with some partial clearing by Friday afternoon.
A weak high pressure ridge will bring limited sunshine right into Saturday. Right now, my confidence in the forecast after Friday is low. The computer models are disagreeing on how long the precipitation will last into Friday. The European feels we may see showers last into Friday night. For now, I will keep some continuity from last night’s forecast, as the American model continues to bring drier air over us by the afternoon.
