Forecast discussion: After some early morning showers on Sunday, a strong high pressure system began to build over Providence. This ridge helped to move the cold front offshore. But, temperatures were much cooler, thanks to air coming down from Canada.
We will see below normal temperatures for the next couple of days. In fact, overnight lows will fall into the middle 30’s to lower 40’s in Southern New England. The coldest night will be Monday night, as the National Weather Service has put out a Freeze Advisory from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. As we move into the middle of the week, warmer air will return, as our winds shift back to the southwest and west-southwest. A strong warm front will work its way into New England Wednesday evening. Along the front will be some precipitation, with showers and possible thunderstorms. The warm front will move to our east Wednesday evening, with the weak cold front associated with the low pressure system coming through Thursday morning.
A new high pressure ridge will build over us for the rest of Thursday, and will continue to influence our weather on Friday and Saturday. However, I am not very confident in the forecast after Friday. The European model keeps the low over New England Thursday night into Friday, before clearing us out on Saturday. For now, I agree more with the American and United Kingdom models, which have stayed quite consistent the last couple of model runs. Temperatures will rise into the middle to upper 70’s by Friday, before slowly cooling into the lower 70’s on Sunday.
