Forecast discussion: After several days of wet weather, a low pressure system off the Gulf of Maine moved off to the northeast, working into northeastern Canada. After some brief showers, some parts of Rhode Island finally saw some sunshine Sunday afternoon. Despite the sunshine, temperatures were well below normal for this time of the year.
The good news is high pressure over Michigan will now influence our weather pattern for the next couple of days. Despite a northwest breeze, temperatures will be about ten degrees warmer, with highs in the lower 70’s. It will be a little warmer as we move through the middle of the week, as a frontal boundary moves northward towards Southern New England.
By Tuesday evening, that frontal boundary will become a warm front, as it will bring some of the warmest temperatures of the year by Thursday. However, the front will also bring some showers Tuesday night into Wednesday. Also, there may be a few thunderstorms along the front. The front will stall over southern New Hampshire on Thursday, so a few afternoon showers will remain in the forecast.
Despite a weak cold front passing through for the weekend, temperatures will remain in the lower to middle 80’s into the end of the week. Also, it will become more humid, so it may become tough to sleep at night without air conditioning. There will not be much of a temperature contrast behind the cold front, and there will be no precipitation with the front. A new cold front will bring some showers by next Sunday, along with temperatures cooling into the lower 80’s.
