Forecast discussion: Well had a miserable weekend weather wise, but we were able to save the best for last. High pressure ridging over central New York gave us a delightful Memorial Day, with sunshine and warmer temperatures for all outside activities. As we move through the week, we will be feeling summer like weather, with hot temperatures and high humidity.
A warm front now moving into central Indiana and Illinois will be moving northward into Southern New England by early Wednesday morning. The front will help bring thickening clouds Tuesday afternoon, with some scattered showers by the evening commute. The precipitation may become heavier by early Wednesday morning, with some possible severe thunderstorms. Some small hail and strong winds may accompany these thunderstorms. After the front passes Wednesday night, some of the hottest temperatures of the year are forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Right now, many of the computer models are seeing high temperatures in the upper 80’s, although some inland areas could see 90 degrees or more. The coastline should be a little cooler, with highs in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s. As we go into this weekend, the American model brings a slow moving cold front towards the east coast Sunday afternoon. There is the slight chance of some showers and thunderstorms by the late afternoon, although the European and United Kingdom models are bringing the cold front through on Monday.
For now, I will split the difference in the models, having he front move through with precipitation on Sunday, before we see clearing skies Monday morning. The cold front will bring our hot, humid temperatures back to early June standards, with highs in the middle 70’s on Monday.
