In Late June, the American Atheist group unveiled their own monument of unbelief in God next to a representation of the Ten Commandments a tribute to God outside of a Starke, Florida courthouse. This ‘new’ tactic of putting their own monuments in the public square next to monuments dedicated to the existence of, or proclaiming the word of God is likely to continue. Those connected with the group have said that they have the money for fifty more such benches…which they will spread out across the country.
Groups that disbelieve the existence of God are getting just as arrogant in our country as groups bound and determine to mock the biblical standard of God’s plan for marriage. Bus shelter ads, public marches and press conferences abound with people who feel that it is their right to shake their fist in the face of the Lord and proclaim their ‘freedom’ without Him.
In today’s Bible lesson, God laughs at the fist shakers (Psalm 37:13 KJV).
Not just a chuckle; but a long, hearty laugh. A heavenly ‘gut buster’.
The Psalmist painted a grim picture of our modern era at man’s quest to not only erase God from the public conscience, but to systematically ‘rub out’ God’s people. The Psalmist calls them ‘evildoers’ (verse 1) and warns the righteous that they will soon be gone the way of new-mown grass (verse 2). Psalm 37 is not only a prophetic psalm, but it is an apocalyptic psalm; letting the naysayers know–up front–that by their attempting to destroy the righteous and God’s law THEY will eventually come up for judgment both in the present and eternally IF they don’t cease and desist their wicked ways and actions (verses 9-12).
Psalm 37 encourages those on the side of God to remember that He is the final word on all things, no matter what evildoers have planned in their attempts against His people (verses 14-15). Even in instances where Christians show mercy and kindness and get verbally assaulted by those who are standing against God, we still have a duty to do right (verse 21). God has a hearty laugh against those who rail against Him. He also has a milk carton ready for evildoers, as one day…by His word…they will be listed as missing.
