Show opens with Henry stretching before a marathon where a woman named Felicia asks to run with him. The race sounds and Henry sees she’s really into the run. He chases after her.
Shawn/Gus are chasing down someone on a motor bike in the Blueberry. The bike jumps into the race and the guys follow him. The bike almost hits Henry/Felicia and the guys drive by and say hi to Henry. Lassiter/Juliet arrive trying to cut the man on the bike off but they end up crashing into the Blueberry.
Vick is yelling at the guys for what they did. She says that he mayor is sending over a consultant named Harris Trout to tell them how they should do their job. Lassiter gets upset and Trout (Hall) walks in. He gives them a run down of his resume. Lassiter goes to shake his hand but Trout shows him his but. There is an awkward silence and Gus tries to fill it with useless conversation.
Trout asks the group to get together to talk. He starts by firing all of them and asking them to explain why they are needed. Trout says he doesn’t believe in psychics and asks Shawn to use his ability on him. Shawn tries to deny it before noticing his tipping finger and the Buffalo paper in his bag. He gets up and goes over a list things that he has. Trout says he believes in Psychics less then 2 minutes ago. He puts a timer on the desk and asks them to explain what happened.
Flash to what Shawn is explaining. A man (Slotnick) comes into the psych office and asks them to find a murderer, who has killed him.
Reality. Trout asks he thought it was ‘run-of-the-mill’ and Shawn says that’s Santa Barbara.
Flashback. The man says his name is Leo Quinn and he was poisoned. Gus greaks out and puts on a mask. He said that he got a blood test done and the doctor said he got poisoned. They go back to the ER and the doctor explained that he got exposed to sodium monofloracetate or compound 1080, a toxic used for a large scale of pest control. The doctor explains that he got the poison not by accident. But he says that he’s never seen this level of toxicity and says that most people don’t last more then 48 hours.
Reality. Trout throws out the doughnuts and Shawn/Gus gasp. Shawn says that he did call the police. But it was Juliet, but Trout says that doesn’t count. He learns that Shawn/Juliet are dating. Juliet defends her relationship by saying Lassiter married a felon. McNabb comes in to bring files and Lassiter reveals that he’s a part time stripper. Trout starts taking notes before making Shawn continue.
Flashback. Shawn/Gus ask Leo who might want to kill him. He says he’s a pro-bono lawyer. The doctor (Pais) says he’s in denial about everything. Leo remembers that he’s supposed to pick up his wife, Rita. Gus refuses to help Leo who fell out of his bed. Shawn says him and Gus offered to pick up Rita.
At the airport, Shawn/Gus attempt to find Rita, who they have no description for. They ask the women they think Leo would marry until the last woman they thought he would marry claims to be Rita.
Reality. Trout asks why telling him about her looks. Shawn says its part of their process.
Flashback at the airport. Gus tells Rita all about Leo’s being poisoned. She says she’s shocked, but doesn’t seem upset. Shawn sees something off about her suitcase.
Shawn/Gus watch Leo hug Rita when Shawn tells Gus that there is no tags.
Reality. Shawn and Gus tell them that they know that Rita married Leo for citizenship.
Flasback. At the psych office, Shawn (in a very bad Spanish accent) calls Rita’s house and learns that he is right. Shawn/Gus head over to Leo’s but see that Rita already cleaned out the house.
Reality. Trout asks about if Shawn called the police. Shawn sys he left a message with Mortemensen and Lassiter pretty much blows that the officer is made up.
Flashback. They go into the house and see that Rita is dead. Shawn says that things got ‘hairy. Santa Barbara style’.
Trout is on the phone arguing with someone. Vick comes to talk to the group. Lassiter/Juliet are afraid of losing their pensions. He hands up on the phone call, who is his mother. He comes to ask if Shawn called the police yet. Lassiter joins in now and says that he did.
Flashback. Lassiter shows up and says he secured the scene but Shawn/Gus interrupt and says that’s not how it went down. Trout tells Shawn to continue.
Flashback. Police is looking over the crime scene. Lassiter listens to a voicemail from a man named Chuck who wants to see her.
Shawn/Gus talk with Leo and tell him that Rita is dead. Leo says the only thing out of the ordinary that his office was broken into but nothing was taken. Shawn/Gus say they will check it out. Leo says he will take them.
At the office, Leo is high off his pain medication. Shawn/Gus are looking over the office. Shawn sees that someone tried to break in to a filing cabinet. Leo didn’t understand right away but opens it up and says Mrs. Launderbach’s security deposit box. Shawn says that the box had $10 million worth of diamonds.
The group opens the box with Mrs. Lauderbach and she faints. The bank employee says they would have logged it. He shows them the log and Shawn sees a name on the log that is suspicious. They go to look at the security tapes. They look and see a man enter the box next to Mrs. Lauderbach’s and the name is a V. Manus.
Reality. The group explains that the V. Manus is the one that broke into Leo’s office and stole the key. He acted like he was entering his box, but really Mrs. Lauderbachs. His accomplice is the bank employee, Charles Sax who had quite a day later. Lassiter points out that Charles could also be the ‘Chuck’ from earlier that left the voice mail. Trout concludes that Sax/Manus killed Rita and Leo so they can keep the diamonds.
Flashback. Group goes to see if Charles Sax lives there. She says no, but Shawn asks about Victor and he is there. The group goes to the room. They corner Sax and he says he will talk just when he gets shot. He falls off the balcony and right next to Leo in the Blueberry, smoking a cigar.
Trout eats a piece of bread and asks them to keep going. Shawn/Gus take Leo back to the ER.
Flashback. Leo is getting wrose. He asks them to have him cremated and to catch the guy who killed him.
Shawn/Gus get some snow cones before going to look for Manus.
Reality. They continue talking about the case. Juliet explains that they think that if they found the true idenity of Manus they would find the killer. The timer goes off and Trout takes a bite of an energy bar before having Shawn continue.
Flashback. Shawn/Gus are at hospital where Leo just died. Gus asks if Leo left them money for hteir services and the doctor says no. Shawn says that they did get something after the next day and it’s Leo’s ashes.
Reality. Shawn/Gus say they were going to throw the ashes over the Dwarf but got distracted. Lassiter/Juliet figure out that what’s all over their clothes is Leo’s ashes. Lassiter gets upset and starts choking Shawn. Trout stops them and tells them to continue.
Flashback. Shawn/Gus are going back to the office by a letter from Leo. He tells them to look up a Curtis Stanzin. Gus takes a bunch of stuff to make up for lack of check.
Shawn/Gus meet up with Juliet/Lassiter at Curtis’s house. They see him leaving on a motorcycle. They all get into their cars and head off. The chase shows from the beginning of the show.
Present day. Shawn remembers that he did tell Juliet that the ashes were cake mix.
Flashback. They stop fighting and realize that he crashed and died. Shawn realizes that Curtis had also been poisoned.
Reality. Trout asks them then if Curtis was killed, who is the killer. Shawn looks at the pictures of Curtis from the morgue and remembers someone and believes he knows who the killer is.
They all keep guessing. And Shawn says it was Leo. He says Leo pretended to be poisoned and Curtis was really poisoned. He says that Leo wanted the money for himself because his wife was cheating on him and he is poor. Shawn says that it’s genius because they wouldn’t find him with the diamonds because he’s dead. Shawn thinks he knows where he is and leads the group to go after him when Trout stops them. He says they are all suspended because off all the lack of procedures they have going on and because they didn’t figure out sooner that Leo was the bad guy. He appoints another officer to go after Leo.
A doctor Umma gets called over the intercom and Shawn/Gus are waiting for him when he answers the call. They explain how they were able to figure out it was him, because of doctor’s hearing aid. Leo goes running but Lassiter/Juliet are waiting for him.
The group arrives back at the department. Trout is yelling at Vick and they wait for him to come out for hteir punishment. He tells them to go back to work. Juliet thought that someone was going to get fired. Vick comes out and says that she got suspended for 6 months. She says she’s happy to take it because she likes results, not necessarily their methods. Trout goes over to McNabb and tells him he’s fired. The group stands up against Trout. He tells them that he’s staying because he’s the new interim chief of police. He says they won’t hire the psychics anymore and that Lassiter is no longer head detective.
Next up on Psych: Psych-Musical – coming this December
Technically this is the season finale, but we still have the two-hour musical that is set to come out in the Fall. Tonight we got a first look at what we can expect. It seems like the musical is kind of a tv-movie sort of thing and may not be a continuation of the season finale. But only time will tell with that. There wasn’t much in the trailer but it did give a few scenes of the dancing and it should be interesting to see come December.
