Who doesn’t love a good party? Whether hosting or attending, there are a few key details that can take any party from drab to fab inexpensively and with minimal effort.
Obviously, good food, great music and a smattering of libations are essential to any successful bash. What are lacking at most gatherings however, are the props or art elements. Not only does a fab visual make for great conversation starters but it also adds an instant festive vibe to those in attendance. The idea behind being a successful host is to make your event an extremely enjoyable experience and memorable enough to leave them craving the next invite.
Selecting a theme is an essential starting point. From here, choose one glaringly obvious necessity to support the desired theme. For example, in the slide show of pictures, you will see a pirate party, designed by yours truly. The largest obvious element to a pirate theme is a pirate ship! Now, one need not hire a crew of ship builders but instead, throw together a small (or large in this case) prop that resembles a ship. Add a net and top it off with a menacing jolly roger and you instantly have, not only an awesome conversation piece, but a fun way to add the art element. The amount of money that most people spend at the party store on plastic palm trees and cardboard cutouts is obscene. Putting a little creativity and imagination into a piece will make a far greater impact and larger bang for your buck.
Also pictured in the attached slide show, is a red carpet themed party, of course designed by this Savvy Broad. An inexpensive roll of red plastic table cloth and a borrowed Limousine made this soiree a success! Create a buzz in the weeks leading up to your event by making an event page on Facebook for all those invited, or an email invitation link where interaction is involved. Post fun pics and teasers, and provide a fun way for the guests to participate before the actual party date. This also gives you the opportunity to create the feel or tone of the event. For the red carpet party, I was able to suggest more formal attire, and create anticipation for walking the red carpet and partaking in champagne yummies! Who doesn’t like champagne??
