The International Rescue Committee’s young professional group, GenR, hosted their 3rd annual summer party at David Burke Garden at The James Hotel. The event raised funds for the Foundation’s global and local humanitarian aid programs.
Guests included IRC New Roots spokesperson, Chef David Burke, actor Rob Gorrie (“One Life to Live”) and Bhutanese refugee, Parbat Chapagai.

IRC Voice Rashida Jones visited the farmers market in City Heights where refugee farmers are selling some of the vegetables they have grown to put money back into their gardens and support their families. The actress wore a Thakoon dress and Valentino shoes to the IrC supported premiere of her independent movie “Celeste and Jesse Forever.”
Morena Baccarin who stars in Showtime’s hit “Homeland” attended the annual garden party in 2012. Morena is an advocate for the protection and empowerment of women and girls. The Brazilian American actress wore a Helmut Lang draped tetra silk dress on the red carpet. The ‘Homeland’ star took a trip to Drew Gardens in the Bronx to learn more about the various herbs and vegetables being grown including this sticky bean leaf.
“My mother is an activist for women’s rights in Brazil and even as a young child her passion inspired me to use my voice to support women’s issues.”
The event highlighted the IRC’s programs, both domestic and international, which empower refugees and people who have been displaced by conflict, political oppression, religious persecution or natural disaster and help them to rebuild their lives.

Guests enjoyed a Special Menu by Chef David Burke, Restaurateur, Cookbook Author and New Roots Spokesperson. The celebrity Chef Burke is currently featured on the Bravo series top Chef Masters.
The evening of inventive cuisine featured passed canapes including Ginger chicken skewers, bbq beef shortrib dumplings, kobe corndogs and lobster rolls. The dessert menu included frozen Arnold Palmers, Strawberry shortcake parfait and mini chocolate cheesecake pops.
Patron also sponsored a photobooth and served specialty Patron pops made by King of Pops in flavors like salted caramel, mexican chocolate, strawbery margarita, and grapefruit pomegranate.
Proceeds will support IRC’s critical humanitarian work.
