Razer™ today announced the new Razer Naga 2014, the newest member of the popular Naga MMO gaming mouse line. The new Naga gets more buttons, better buttons, and a new and improved ergonomic shape. In addition, left-handed gamers will be able to enjoy their very own left-handed version of the Naga 2014 as well.
The biggest change in the Naga 2014 is its vastly improved signature 12-key keypad, which gets sculpted buttons backed by mechanical switches (a design similar to the Logitech G600) for improved tactile feedback. In addition, the higher, more sculpted buttons should reduce the learning curve required to use the Naga 2014’s keypad.
The Naga 2014 also gets a tilt scroll wheel, which effectively adds 2 additional, programmable buttons and raises the Naga 2014’s button total to an impressive 19.
Perhaps more importantly, the Naga 2014 gets a broader shape with a resting spot for your third (and maybe fourth) fingers—a generally better design for those with larger hands. (One of my few if relatively minor quibbles with the Naga line has always been its relatively small form factor.)
Also new with the Naga 2014 is improved configuration software, which basically introduces an onscreen display you can call up to change key-bindings without leaving your game. This goes well beyond the original Naga’s World of Warcraft plugin and will work with numerous games. According to Razer PR front man Kevin Scarpati, the improved Naga 2014 software currently supports the following games (and more will be made available in the future):
- StarCraft II
- World of Warcraft
- League of Legends
- Guild Wars 2
- Dota 2
- Ragnarok Online 2
- World of Tanks
- Diablo 3
- Path of Exile
- DC Universe Online
- DnF (Tencent)
- Eve Online
- Lord of the Rings Online
- Star Trek Online
Last but certainly not least, Razer is releasing a left-handed version of the Naga 2014 alongside its right-handed sibling—even though Razer expects to lose money doing so.
“Why? Because we like to do fiscally irresponsible acts for the betterment of gamers worldwide,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director.
The Razer Naga 2014 is available now through Razer’s Web store for $79.99.
