The “Real Housewives” indictment of Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe have made national news headlines today, as this is the first day of court for the couple. “The Real Housewives of New Jersey,” star released a statement about facing the indictments. The couple is facing 39-counts of fraud and tax related indictments, according to ABC News on July 30, 2013. The “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star and her husband may be facing up to 50 years in jail if they are found guilty.
Teresa claims that she will plead not-guilty to the charges. The couple is basically charged with filing bankruptcy and reporting they were millons of dollars in debt for that purpose. They are accused of claiming elaborate wealth when applying for loans. Teresa and Joe made their initial court appearance on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET, in Newark, N.J., federal court.
Teresa Giudice issued a statement on Tuesday:
“Today is a most difficult day for our family. I support Joe and, as a wonderful husband and father, I know he wants only the best for our lovely daughters and me,” she said. ”I am committed to my family and intend to maintain our lives in the best way possible, which includes continuing my career. As a result, I am hopeful that we will resolve this matter with the government as quickly as possible.”
Teresa addressed the bankruptcy that she and her husband filed for a while back, while on “The View.” She said that it had to do with the four apartment buildings that the couple own in East Orange, New Jersey. Due to the economy on the downswing, the tenants were having a hard time paying the rent, which in turn meant that they didn’t get the money they needed for the mortgage payments.
As you can see in the statement Teresa released, one of her goals is to keep her career going, which is her reality show gig with “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” While the drama is always good for one of the reality shows, is this an area that might cross the line for the show’s decision makers? Will these indictments be the demise of Teresa’s reality show days?
Fox News had a discussion on Teresa and Joe’s filing for bankruptcy on Tuesday afternoon. They made the point that the couple filed for bankruptcy, but yet were still seen on TV spending wades of cash. Did the things that Teresa and Joe did on the show play a part in this investigation which led to the indictments?
