Virginia republican Rep. Frank Wolf made a disturbing allegation on the House floor today regarding the survivors of the Benghazi terror attack that killed four innocent Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Wolf charged that the reason the survivors have not been forthcoming is because they “have been forced to sign nondisclosure agreements,” as reported today by Daniel Halper of The Weekly Standard.
“According to trusted sources that have contacted my office, many if not all of the survivors of the Benghazi attacks along with others at the Department of Defense, the CIA have been asked or directed to sign additional non-disclosure agreements about their involvement in the Benghazi attacks. Some of these new NDAs, as they call them, I have been told were signed as recently as this summer.”
If this is true, it would be a direct contradiction to what White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in March. Fox News correspondent James Rosen asked whether the “various lawmakers who have been seeking access to the Benghazi survivors should in fact have that access.”
“The White House is certainly not preventing anybody from having any access to the survivors of the Benghazi attack.”
In May, Carney continued the meme, saying
“But again, with regards to these stories, to our knowledge, we’re not aware of any agency that has blocked an employee who would like to appear before Congress.”
Wolf continued to say,
“It is worth nothing that the Marine Corps Times yesterday reported that the Marine colonel whose task force was responsible for special operations in northern and western Africa at the time of the attack is still on active duty despite claims that he retired. And therefore could not be forced to testify before Congress.”
The report that Rep. Wolf refers to was regarding Col. George Bristol, “whose task force was responsible for special operations in northern and western Africa.” A spokeswoman for the marines said that Bristol is “on active duty through the end of July.” If officials with knowledge of the events surrounding the Benghazi terror attacks were somehow coerced into signing NDAs, it would be a very serious breach of the public trust.
