With the depth issues at wide receiver, the 49ers will bring in WR Laurent Robinson for a tryout on Thursday, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
The six-year veteran was a former third round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, but his career has been halted by injuries. After being traded to the Rams from the Falcons, he suffered a fractured fibula in 2009. He had a disappointing season in 2010 which led to his release.
Robinson spent time with the Chargers before having a breakout year with the Dallas Cowboys in 2011. With the Cowboys receiving corps depleted, he had a total of 54 receptions for 858 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. After signing a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, his tenure with them ended up being short lived with multiple concussions which led to his release last March.
The 6-2, 205 pound receiver previously tried out for the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions and New England Patriots earlier this month.
For the 49ers, the wide receiving depth chart has become thin with the recent injuries to Kyle Williams and Mario Manningham while A.J. Jenkins and Kassim Osgood were sidelined in the last two days. Michael Crabtree will miss a significant portion of the season with a torn Achilles.
