The development of Prey 2 has been in limbo after some sort of dust up between Human Head Studios and Bethesda Software. However, a new report Friday indicates that the game is now being handled by Dishonored developer, Arkane Studios, and is now targeting a late 2016 release for what is like likely the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
According to Kotaku sources, Arkane Studios is being allowed to completely scrap the work that Human Head has done on Prey 2 to this point and start from scratch. This is after Bethesda shopped the game around to other studios including Obsidian Entertainment and Rebellion.
The abandonment of the work that Human Head Studios performed is apparently the key point that convinced the heads of Arkane Studios to take on Prey 2. Kotaku’s tipster says the execs are telling the team members to treat their version as an iteration on System Shock much the same way they did with Dishonored and Irrational Games did with BioShock.
There is obviously much going on behind the scenes as Human Head reportedly stopped working on Prey 2 following a contract dispute with Bethesda. This led to many to wonder if the game was cancelled before Bethesda simply announced that it was delayed. It apparently lives on though if this rumor is true. The question is, will it be able to regain the buzz it received following the impressive 2011 E3 video.
