The temperature may keep going up, but Saturday night is the time to get down – down and funky that is, at a retro ‘70s and ‘80s dance and dinner in Orangevale. Host Millie Finch, a stone fox and owner of pet supply store Trends-n-Treats, will be cranking up some killer tunes to raise money for a Sacramento nonprofit animal assisted therapy organization.
Lend A Heart Animal Assisted Therapy is run completely by volunteers, both human and animal. Volunteers and their pet cats, dogs and rabbits provide support to people in hospitals, care homes and veteran’s facilities.
Numerous studies have shown significant improvements in health and mood when people interact with therapy animals.
Finch says that Lend A Heart also runs a highly successful program for local schoolchildren. Students get to read aloud to the animals, which has proven to help the children develop their reading and social skills.
“Kids can’t resist loving and being loved by a sweet, fuzzy animal,” she says, “whether or not they can have pets at home”.
The mood will be awesome Saturday at the total legit Adult Night Out party, with a catered dinner, rad tunes, excellent auction and raffle items and really chill people to hang with.
The groove runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 29, at the Orangeville Grange Hall.
Finch is a longtime booster for local charities dedicated to helping people and animals, and she doesn’t just talk the talk. She has supported numerous groups including the Sacramento SPCA, Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode, Senior Gleaners and municipal shelters.
In addition to supporting animal assisted therapy, the night will also benefit the Fair Oaks Chamber of Commerce. Finch is an active member of the Chamber and helps with the group’s many events that galvanize and energize the community.
Adult Night Out is one in a series of events Finch is coordinating as part of her “Millie For Mayor” campaign, an annual fundraising race put on by the Chamber.
Each year several Chamber members are nominated and each works to raise funds for the chamber and for the charity or project of their choice.
The candidate who raises the most money wins the title of Honorary Mayor of Fair Oaks for the year.
Don’t bogart this invitation; this will be a totally awesome jam for your friends too. They can dress for success if they wish; plenty of people will be sporting disco duds, platform shoes, Flashdance finery, shoulder pads, Ray Bans, Madonna gear, lace gloves and pleather.
