Reveille For Radicals, a new band on the local Inland Empire scene had their debut, full length CD release show Saturday night May 18th at Mill Creek in Mentone, CA. Fans and friends answered the “Call To Arms”, coming out in force to support the show. Dave Deponte, Dive Bomber, and Inside Riot were also there to play the show and support R4R. If you missed the show, here is a quick peek at how it played out.
Dave Deponte opened the show in style with a fun and funny non traditional set. Playing his Heavy Metal acoustic ukulele, Dave sang and played hits from Metal giants such as Slayer, Metallica, and many others – with an occasional Pop Rock tune thrown in. It was a perfect way to begin the evening and transition the audience from a dinner crowd to a Rock crowd.
Dive Bomber was up next and continued the non traditional theme for the evening. If you have not seen Dive Bomber, they can only be described as a explosion of sound, movement, and color on stage. Lead Vocalist “Nomad”, also known as “The Painted Man”, paints himself from head to toe in body paint for each show. He changes his paint job for every show, and in this case his paint job was in support of Reveille for Radicals. That is the visual portion of the bomb in Dive Bomber. Now for the sound and on stage movement. The rest of the crew include: Catfish – Guitars/Vocals, Toad – drums, and Pane- Bass/Vocals. These boys know how to play, creating a sound that is a mixture of Heavy Metal groove and Hard Rock. Throughout the set Nomad is spin-kicking, jumping, climbing, and well…you just never know. I have seen this band more times than I can count and no show has been the same. For an explosive on stage experience, check this band out.
Reveille for Radicals (the men of the hour) are: JT—Vocals, Jeff Peterson—Guitar, Animal—Drums, and Julian—Bass. All the guys are veterans to music and have been playing in the scene in other projects, but a year ago this group of friends and musicians came together and created Reveille for Radicals (Bassist Julian being the most recent member to join the crue 2 months ago). Their lyrics come with a message; a “Call to Arms” as they say. “Disenchanted with the leadership of a broken society; SICK and TIRED of watching political leaders control the public’s every move while growing fat on the misery of others, this band of RADICALS knew they where destined for something larger than themselves. The people needed a voice to overcome the suppression & control of political greed.” This quote is part of what drives their lyrics. Their music has elements of punk, rock, and alternative. If you want new music with a message that is worth checking out, this is your band.
The night closed with Inside Riot. I regret that I did not have a chance to see them play. I was told by the staff that we would have to leave this all ages show since my daughter was not sitting down at the table eating after 10:00 PM, but from the feedback from all who were at this show they reported to me that it was a great set.
Congratulations to R4R on their new album and on their conception of their band. As a fan and supporter of the local music scene it is always a pleasure to check out what is new and to share it with others. Look for this band to come to a venue near you.
