Ringo Starr and Genesis Publications Wednesday announced the upcoming publication of a new book, “Photograph,” featuring never-before-seen material, including photos taken by Ringo as well as exclusive images from his own personal archives.
“Photograph” will make its first appearance as a popularly priced ebook on June 12 in conjunction with the upcoming Grammy Museum exhibit “Ringo: Peace & Love” in Los Angeles, which will include some images from the book. The ebook can be pre-ordered now from iTunes for £8.99 / $9.99 USD / 9.99 Euro. The price after the June 12 publication will be £9.99 / $12.99 / 11.99 Euro.
A 2,500 copy limited-edition and more expensive hand-bound book, with all copies signed by Ringo Starr, will follow in December 2013. An exclusive excerpt from “Photograph” will appear in the June 10, 2013, issue of People magazine that arrives on newsstands this Friday. There’s also a website for the book at RingoPhotograph.com.
“‘I’ve got a lot of pictures in the ebook, a lot more in the real book and some in the exhibition in the Grammy Museum,” Starr said in a statement.
According to the book announcement, it will include forgotten photographs of his childhood home, family holidays and all-night parties on his road to stardom. It will also feature candid pictures of his fellow Beatles in pensive and playful moments, including washing, eating, recording, smoking, drinking and playing Monopoly.
The book will also include Ringo’s travel photos taken as the Beatles toured the world. “His photographs and stories portray four lads from Liverpool, trying to live normal lives amidst the frenzy that surrounded them,” the book description says.
‘These are shots that no one else could have,” says Starr. “‘A good time was had by all in those days.”
In the ebook, readers can pick up and zoom in on photographs as they scroll through Ringo’s memoir, while audio clips narrated by Ringo tell previously unheard stories of the photos. In the book, he tells of growing up in Liverpool and his time in hospital where he played a drum for the first time. He recalls his first car, drum-kit, girls and first bands. The ebook also includes exclusive videos with interviews, music and animation.
“Genesis did a great job on my book, “Postcards From the Boys,” so why would I go anywhere else? I did my first book with the father and now my second with his son,” Starr said.
“Yes, I am getting excited the e-book is coming out. I’ve worked very hard and I hope you will love it. Peace and Love R***,” he added later on Twitter.
