Romance Writers of America recently held their annual conference. Nationals, as it’s often called, includes tons of great workshops, book signings, and an awards ceremony when winners of the Golden Heart [for unpublished works] and the RITA Awards [for published books] are announced. Here are the RITA Award winners for 2013

2013 RITA Award for Short Contemporary Series: A Night of No Return by Sarah Morgan published by Harlequin. Sarah’s book “Doukakis’s Apprentice” also won the RITA last year.
A Gift for All Season’s by Karen Templeton
2013 RITA Award for Long Contemporary Series: A Gift for All Seasons by Karen Templeton, published by Harlequin. Karen’s book “Welcome Home, Cowboy” won the RITA in 2009 and “A Mother’s Wish” won the RITA in 2009.
The Haunting of Maddy Clare
2013 RITA Award for Novel with Strong Romantic Elements: The Haunting of Maddy Clare published by Penguin USA. This book also won the 2013 RITA Award for Best First Book.
Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden
2013 RITA Award for Inspirational Romance: Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden published by Bethany House Publishers. Last year Serena Miller won with her book “The Measure of Katie Calloway”.
Scorched by Laura Griffin
2013 RITA Award for Romantic Suspense: Scorched by Laura Griffin published by Simon and Schuster. Laura also won the 2010 RITA for her book “Whisper of Warning”.
Seduced by a Pirate by Eloisa James
2013 RITA Award for Romance Novella: Seduced by a Pirate by Eloisa James, published by Avon Impulse. Although James is a bestselling author this was her first RITA win.
The Way Back Home by Barbara Freethy
2013 RITA Award for Contemporary Single Title: The Way Back Home by Barbara Freethy, published by Simon and Schuster. Barbara is well known for both her traditionally published books and her indie publishing success.
A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean
2013 RITA Award for Historical Romance: A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean, published by Avon Books. In recent years the RITA Award for Historical Romance has been awarded to Joanna Bourne and Sherry Thomas.
Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole
2013 RITA Award for Paranormal Romance: Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole, published by Simon and Schuster. This was Kresley’s third RITA for Paranormal Romance [along with “Kiss of a Demon King” and “A Hunger Like No Other”] which made her eligible for RWA’s Hall of Fame.
The Farm by Emily McKay
2013 RITA Award for Young Adult Romance: The Farm by Sarah McKay published by Penguin. This is the sixth year that RWA has awarded a RITA for Young Adult Romance.
