One of the worst things about rainy days for many kids and their parents is the rule about no running inside the house.
Kids have a lot of energy to burn that’s hard to do when it’s raining cats and dogs. Maybe you can relax the rules a little bit when there’s rain in the forecast.
Kids like running in the rain, but it can be dangerous if there’s thunder or lightning. Parents may not like the mess left by wet clothes peeled off at the door.
One option is to allow controlled running in safe areas like the basement or hallways. Hold relay races in the hallway letting kids pass a baton to one another at each end of the hall.
If your basement has enough space, kids can run or ride bikes in the basement. If neither of these is an option at your house, you may want to escape for a while to an indoor play area.
In Lynchburg, there are several places where kids can run and play any day, even when it’s raining or stormy outdoors.
