UPDATED July 29: New information can be found here
UPDATED July 25: New Facebook page for Samson. Also, please do not call or email any threats against Sterling Heights police. Do not made any threats on the Facebook page. This can really hurt Samson’s case. Examiner monitors comments here, and Nora is having to monitor comments on Samson’s pages.
At this moment, a 3-year-old pit bull mix named Samson is possibly being set up for murder, even though he has passed a temperament test. He’s also most likely being held for a crime he never committed.
Read his story, then decide on whether you agree that Samson’s life is in danger.
Samson’s story began on June 20 in Sterling Heights, Michigan, when he was taken from inside the home of his owner Nora Jabr. Samson was accused of being on his neighbors lawn, and the neighbor feared for his life.
This one neighbor had contacted the police on several occasions about Samson, making up one story after another about the dog.
Nora says it’s impossible for Samson to have been outside in the neighbors yard. She has a six foot tall fence that locks and latches, and insists Samson was inside the home at the time the incident involving the neighbor supposedly took place.
Animal control took Samson to the Macomb Animal Shelter, where he was facing euthanization. With the help of an attorney, Nora manager to have Samson transferred to I Heart Pits until his trial.
Samson was required by the city to take the Canine Good Citizen Test. They recommended 8-10 training sessions prior to him taking the test but Nora was so confident in him, knowing he is not the dangerous, aggressive dog they are trying to make him out to be that she signed him up for the test prior to any training sessions. Lo and behold, he passed “with flying colors” on his first attempt on July 13. This is a very unjust and discriminative situation.
Nora defends the dog she’s had since he was a seven week old puppy
“The whole story did not make any sense. How did Samson get out of the house, backyard, or through the privacy fence? How did he get back inside the house? If he were trying to attack someone, why would he leave the scene of the crime? Well, just as I suspected, he did not leave my house. This is a case of mistaken identity; I have footage, and pictures of a dog that looks very similar to Samson, taken while Samson was at the shelter doing exactly what Samson was accused of. The dog was running into the neighbor’s yard, unrestrained. You would think that I would get my dog back, right then and there but no. We still have to continue on with the case and I have to fight the tickets given to me (Dog at large & Harboring a potentially dangerous animal).”
This case gets even more complicated, because the city of Sterling Heights has delayed a verdict on Samson. What turned in to one week in doggy jail has now stretched into over a month since Samson was taken into custody.
Now the city wants Samson to pass what they (quote) “some sort of test, which involves uniformed police officers to enter his home without him having a reaction”
Think on this situation a moment. Word has spread that the officers will be coming into the home wearing some type of gear. Even in just a police uniform, a dog who has been traumatized by police in his home is likely to have a reaction when the same uniform returns to the home.
Talk about PTSD! Poor Samson is most likely going to go crazy when the officers arrive. If the officers are in any kind of special suit, dogs have a tough time seeing a silhouette, which can affect a dogs reaction.
The whole idea sounds like a perfect setup to kill Samson in his own home. What better way to be rid of the dog than for him to “attack” the officers during this “test,” forcing the officers to defend themselves.
Keep in mind Samson is most likely innocent of any wrongdoing, since Nora has video of a dog who looks just like him still roaming the neighborhood.
A petition has been started at to help Samson get home. An event to raise money to cover any legal fees is planned for August 17 from 6-9pm at the Sterling Heights Bowling Alley, where proceeds will be split 50/50 to help Samson..
Please share Samson’s story far and wide. There are a lot of important groups and people joining in this cause to free an innocent dog. Suggestions on how to handle this situation are also welcome in the comment section of this article.
Do you agree this sounds like the perfect set-up? Not to accuse anyone in particular, since nothing has taken place as of yet, and may not take place at all. City officials could decide at any time to drop the case and return Samson home, where he belongs. Your comments are welcome.
