“The Plaza’s history is intrinsically tied to this timeless American novel and its author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who, with his wife Zelda, was a devoted patron of The Plaza. Epitomizing the Lost Generation, Fitzgerald’s exploits were notorious and he regularly drew inspiration from everyday life for his novels. The hotel’s enduring presence on the New York social scene made it a natural setting for the most climactic scene in the novel and the upcoming film.”
Live like Gatsby, if only for a moment, by staying in the Fitzgerald Suite at the Plaza.
Designed by Catherine Martin, an Academy Award winning costume, set and production designer, she aimed to blur “the lines between reality and fantasy” to create “an environment that evokes the history of the Fitzgerald’s at The Plaza”. The “dramatic deco space recalls the dynamism of the Jazz Age and the 1920s”. The goal of the suite’s designer is to have guests staying in the suite feel as if they have stepped into the pages of the novel.
The suite is designed to welcome guests to live within the excitement spoken in the words from the novel.
Designer Catherine Martin’s goal is “that guests will discover the special energy and excitement of New York in the 1920s so perfectly described by Nick in Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby: ‘I began to like New York, the racy, adventurous feel of it at night, and the satisfaction that the constant flicker of men and women and machines gives to the restless eye.'”
Artifacts decorating the suite include photos of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald’s “complete works, documentaries and movies that have been made about either him or his work, and beautiful coffee-table books that evoke languorous summers on Long Island’s Gold Coast and the fabulous New York of the Roaring Twenties”. Also included in the decor are accessories from the film “to add a level of authenticity and texture to the room”.
Hotel events are welcome to all who visit who want to take a step into the Gatsby adventure.
