Continued from part one
I had the chance to catch up with ‘Sharknado’s actor Marcus Choi. Known to audiences for his hilarious guest spots on shows such as ‘Don’t Trust the B—in Apartment 23’, ‘Go On’, and ‘Raising Hope’. Born in Toronto Canada and raised in Fullerton California Choi loves hip hop, plays the guitar, and dabbles in carpentry.
Q. You were in the Broadway production of the ‘Flower Drum Song’ revival. You were also in the original production of Wicked. Do you have plans of returning to the stage?
A. I loved the original ‘Flower Drum Song’. I was so excited to see so many Asian American artists singing and dancing in 1961. The revival in 2002 on Broadway was truly an amazing and memorable experience for me. It was a dream comes true to work on the great white way and also to be a part of such an iconic musical for the Asian American community. To go from that into the original company of ‘Wicked’ was more than I could have ever asked for. As for returning to the stage, I am always looking for opportunities to do theater. It’s my first love so I guess if the right part comes around, I’ll have to trade in my car for a Metro Card.
Q. Do you have any hidden talents that your fans would be surprised to find out about such as music, singing, hobbies?
A. I guess I try to be creative in every facet, so I play a little guitar and song write from time to time. I also teach musical theater intensives at different studios around the country, but if I had hidden talent/hobbies it would be carpentry. I love the smell of saw dust and fresh cut wood. I take deep breathes whenever I’m in the lumber section of home depot. I built a lot of the furniture I have in my apartment and I can’t wait to have my dream house to custom build it out!
Q. I’m going to end with what’s become my signature question. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be? What song pumps you up and inspires you?
This is a great question! I grew up in Southern California and I am a huge hip hop fan. So I would have to choose Dr. Dre’s THE NEXT EPISODE. I love the beat and I feel like if I heard that walking up to bat, it would get me hype!
