The scent of Heavenly Spas by Westin just got a whole lot more fragrant. Westin Hotels & Resorts has teamed up with the deluxe brand Aromatherapy Associates of London to introduce four signature treatments that combine essential oils with customized techniques to influence your mood.
Don’t worry. It’s not brainwashing. You choose how you want to feel. The four signature aromatherapy treatments are based on a “How do you want to feel?” wellness wheel specifically created for Westin Heavenly Spas. Depending on an individual’s response to this question, therapists will select essential oils, music and other spa techniques to achieve highly-focused results.
Well, this writer wants to feel happy. And while she hasn’t specifically noticed a happy treatment on the menu, any one of the following signature treatments would probably do the trick: an Aspire Massage, which uses natural plant aromatherapy oils and diverse massage techniques; an Energy Scrub that incorporates exfoliating olive grains; a soothing, relaxing Revive Facial or a Renewal Ritual that targets scalp, shoulders and hair. And, of course, all use targeted essential oils.
About Aromatherapy – does it work?
If you’ve ever questioned the power of aromatherapy, think of how the smell of fresh cut grass takes you back to a summer day; imagine the evocative scent of coconut oil, sweat and salty sea air; the delicious aroma of fresh truffles on pasta …. need this writer say more about how scent can affect mood?
Of course she does. Essential oils not only smell divine, they’re made up of molecules so small they can penetrate the skin. Harnessed correctly, healing plant botanicals can be used to treat aches and pain, boost circulation or bring sinus relief. Certain oils can be good for skin problems or anti-aging – the object of many a spa-goer’s concerns – and they can also affect our emotional state.
According to the Aromatherapy Associates website, smell is the most primitive of the senses and “through the pathways between smell and the deep centres of the brain, essential oils can have a dynamic effect on our emotional state” and “can help transform our moods. So bring on the lavender … spin the wellness wheel and let us all feel good.
