Coming up this week is Vegas week on the Fox hit dance show So You Think You Can Dance Tuesday night. Now that all of the individual auditions are complete, everyone will now begin to reflect on those that were selected to advance to Las Vegas and start picking out winners to root for. Let the handicapping begin.
They had a great story, but was their audition really that good? Their audition was amazing in their comfort zone, but how will they do when faced with other styles? They performed well as a soloist, but are strong enough for a duo? All of these questions and more will be answered Tuesday night. In the meantime, have some innocent fun and pick some early favorites you predict to survive Vegas week based on what has been shown so far. …and what you’ve scoured the internet for.
One early standout was 19 year old Amy Yakima from Northville, Michigan that auditioned in Detroit back in the second episode of the season, when Stephen “tWitch” Boss was on the judges panel with Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy. She was the one who’s father is a doctor and after realizing how much dance means to her, she talked him into taking what she calls “baby dad jazz” dance classes? Of course you know that Nigel couldn’t resist bringing Dan Yakima up on stage for a few basic steps and one nice star jump and even gave up his seat to Amy while her dad performed. It was super cute and she seemed so proud of her father. Dance dads rock.
You can tell when dance is in a person’s blood and soul without even seeing them perform. Dance is in Amy’s personality, attitude, walk and talk, then she performs and time stands still to watch. When Amy gets up to perform a haunting contemporary piece to Je Suis Malade, fans of the show gave a collective sigh of relief in witnessing a true performer for possibly the first time of the season. All worthy of the results, her dad cries and all three judges provide a standing ovation backed by a roaring audience.
Sorry to have to break the news to single young men and women out there, but Amy is dating choreographer Kyle Lucia, as witnessed in all of her social media outlets. That was only shared to prove the point that she has a legitimate chance to make Top 20, because she should be well versed into tougher styles of dance, like hip-hop, which contemporary dancers usually struggle with. It’s time to join Team Yakima and be one of the first.
Until she makes the Top 20 like we predict and Fox gives her a special page for all of these, here is how to show your support and follow Amy Yakima:
