For readers who are familiar with my various columns over the past two years, you may remember the name Fr. Thomas J. Loya. He is the pastor of Annunciation of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Parish in Homer Glen, Illinois, and his name often comes up in my columns because I frequently attend liturgy at his parish. Even for those who have never set foot in in his parish, Fr. Loya is a prominent and in-demand Catholic speaker, not only throughout the Chicago area, but also across the country, and internationally as well.
Fr. Loya has become quite well known in Catholic circles, partly because he hosts two radio shows that have gained a diverse audience. On one of his programs, “Light of the East”, he discusses eastern Chrisitan spirtuality, and on his other radio program, “Beneath the Veil”, he discusses Catholic theology and in particular speaks about the Theology of the Body as it was taught by Pope John Paul II. Fr. Loya was first exposed to Pope John Paul II’s monumental teaching on the human person when he attended his weekly audiences in Rome as a seminarian in the early 1980s. He also writes a monthly column in the HOMER HORIZONS newspaper and writes a bi-monthly column for the HORIZONS newspaper for the Eparchy of Parma. (It is also carried in the Eastern Catholic Life newspaper for the Eparchy of Passaic.) He is one of the founders of www.easternchristianmedia.com and www.oltvweb.com, which are resources for information on the Eastern Catholic Churches.
For those Catholics who haven’t had a chance to hear Fr. Loya speak about Catholics issues, the wait is over next week, and the good news for north side Chicagoans is you won’t even have to drive all the way down south to Homer Glen to see the presentation. Fr. Loya is appearing on the renowned Catholic television EWTN in the upcoming days.
Specifically, he will appearing on the Dr. Ray Guarendi Show on May 30 and 31st. Be sure to mark your calenders! Dr. Ray is a well known clinical psychologist, author, radio host and father of 10 children. He is known for his quick wit and straight-shooting advice in the areas of parenting, marriage and families. His fast-paced program includes six to seven segments and is laced with Dr. Ray’s trademark humor and filled with audience questions-and-answers, role playing, guest interviews and titles like “Advice Worth Ignoring.” Dr. Ray, like Fr. Loya, originally hails from the Cleveland area, and his program was originally taped in the studios of Eastern Christian Media. You can see Fr. Loya’s guest spot on the Dr. Ray show on:
