The fur will be flying at the Monroeville Convention Center for this weekend’s Steel City Pet Expo, one of Pittsburgh’s largest pet-friendly events, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Local vendors like Cool Dog Gear, Pampered Paws-N-Claws, Eternity Pet Memorial, Going Home Greyhounds and Paw Prints will be joined by more than 70 addition businesses and 18 rescue groups to provide you with a one-stop shop for all your Pittsburgh pet resources.
Admission and parking is free, but you may want to bring along a little extra cash for the thousands of pet products that will be on display. With over 100 pet-centric exhibitors, vendors and rescue/adoption groups and hours of demonstrations, giveaways, contests and fun, you’re guaranteed to get your fill of Pittsburgh pet products this weekend.

Bring your pets
Bring along your four-legged family members for their chance to mingle with other pets and sample free treats. All expo guests are welcome and encouraged to bring their pets—whether dog, cat, bird or reptile! Just don’t forget your pet’s proof of current age-appropriate immunizations (if applicable) and a non-retractable leash for your dog. Click here for more information on bringing your pet.
Bring home a special friend
Just because you didn’t arrive with a furry or feathered friend doesn’t mean you can’t leave with one. There will be several organizations ready to meet with you to discuss fostering and adoption opportunities, education and resources and vaccination and microchip options. The Bainfield Pet Hospitals-sponsored mega-adoption event will have more than 300 different animals available for adoption as well as The Pittsburgh affiliate of Parrot Education and Adoption Center (PEAC) who can hook you up with one of their gorgeous parrots.
Treat your dog to a free nail trim from The Platinum Pooch
Get your pooch a “pet-icure” by stopping by booth number 501 to see Donna and Jessica with The Platinum Pooch Pet Salon & Spa. While you wait, enter for your chance to win a free grooming for your dog and stock up on treats, grooming essentials and doggie fashion accessories.
Participate in special promotions and giveaways
This year’s show has tons of great giveaways and special deals for four- and two-legged guests. For instance, Cool Dog Gear is selecting one name from those individuals who “like” the Cool Dog Gear Facebook page before Friday, June 28 to receive a $10 gift certificate toward a Cool Dog Gear purchase at the expo. Scrappy’s Closet, Animal Aromatherapy, and Sit Means Sit Dog Training are just a few of the vendors offering giveaways, raffles and exclusive show discounts.
Enjoy meet-and-greets with pet celebs and trainers
The convention center’s main stage will be bustling with entertainment beginning at 10:35 a.m. when “Pit Boss” star Shorty Rossi and his dog Hercules welcomes attendees to the show. Shorty kicks off a day of meet-and-greets and demonstrations from a variety of vendors and pet stars, including celeb dog trainer Harrison Forbes, Susquehanna Service Dogs and John Lege a.k.a. “That Guy with the Birds.” A pet/owner musical chairs competition, pet talent contest, a karaoke contest, flyball demos from Splash ‘n Dash K9 Sports and even a pet costume contest are also on schedule.
