“Boca Girl” pizza by Catherine’s Hope for a Cure voted the Best.
Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza has been giving the Boca area the best hand-crafted pizza, made in a real WOOD-burning oven for over 20 years. Now Steve’s is giving back to the community, while also introducing some exciting new menu items.
Three of South Florida’s favorite charities in a heated battle dubbed, “Steve’s Charity Pizza Challenge.” Owner Steve Greenberg was pleased to announce his eponymous restaurant “has invited The Tri-County Humane Society, The Pap Corps-Champions for Cancer Research, and Catherine’s Hope for a Cure to go “Pizza-to-Pizza” in a fun-filled cook off.” Each charity created their own signature pizza, and hosted a party in April, received with a portion of their party’s proceeds going directly back to the charity.
Then on May 21st, the specialty pies were judged by a select group of local food critics. It was a tough (and tasty!) battle, but the best pizza emerged as the “Boca Girl Pizza,” sponsored by CATHERINE’S HOPE FOR THE CURE. This admirable charity raises research funds to help find a cure for Batten Disease, an always fatal neurodegenerative condition that has, unfortunately, not received the recognition or funding that other charities see. Founder Catherine Abbott Horowitz created the savory veggie lover’s pie, starring fresh eggplant, roasted tomatoes, blended gourmet cheeses, and a secret saucy sauce. The award-winning pizza will be a placed on Steve’s menu for month. and the winning charity will receive pizza proceeds for a month.
Taking the “Most Creative” award was The Chow Chow Pizza, presented by The Tri County Humane Society, which raises funds to run its 100% no- kill shelter for stray and unwanted pets. Amanda Chussler of the TCHS designed this outstanding Thai chicken-inspired creation, featuring grilled chicken, bean sprouts, carrots, fresh cilantro, and a savory satay peanut sauce.
The third winner was The Party Pizza, sponsored by The Pap Corps, which raises research funds for ALL cancers for men, women and children. The West Boca High club participated in this event. Ashley Rocque from the Pap Club (the West Boca High School chapter of The Pap Corps) crafted the rockin’ Buffalo chicken-wing inspired pie, with a spirited ranch sauce and other surprises.
In addition to the new pizza creations, Steve’s also introduces its new menu items, including wood fired sandwiches such as the Chicken Parm, Roasted Veggie, Meatball, Sausage & Peppers, and Eggplant Parm, on homemade breads. ($7.99 to $9.99). Also new to the menu: homemade desserts such as raspberry zepolies and an apple tart; along with a nice selection of craft beers (including White UFO, Purple Haze, Brooklyn Lage, Ass Kisser, Torpedo and more) and an expanded wine list.
