You can expect to see quite a few new offerings on store shelves and tap walls very soon as Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, California) and Victory Brewing Company (Downingtown, Pennsylvania) have both expanded their distribution to include the great state of Alabama.
Stone Brewing, founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, has been brewing beer in North County San Diego since 1996. Since then, Stone has established itself as the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States by brewing bold, flavorful and largely hop-centric beers that have won countless awards at competitions all over the world. Thanks to wildly popular offerings like Arrogant Bastard Ale and Stone Ruination IPA, Stone Brewing is easily one of the most recognizable breweries in America.
Alabama will mark Stone’s 40th U.S. market. It is not exactly known what beers will available at the time of roll-out, but BeerPulse reports that both R&R Coconut IPA and Stone 17th Anniversary Ale are slated to eventually land in Alabama. Unless something changes, look for Stone Brewing offerings to start hitting shelves and taps in the next few weeks.
**UPDATE** Stone Brewing has created a Facebook page dedicated to their Alabama launch. Give the page a like to stay in the loop on all the roll-out events coming your way very soon.
Also, here are the nine beers that will be available on shelves and taps for the roll-out:
- Stone Pale Ale
- Stone Smoked Porter
- Stone IPA
- Stone Levitation Ale
- Stone Ruination IPA
- Arrogant Bastard Ale
- OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale
- Stone Cali-Belgique IPA
- Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale
Victory Brewing Company was founded by childhood friends Bill Covaleski and Ron Barchet in February of 1996. Both Covaleski and Barchet honed their brewing skills in Munich, Germany and cut their teeth at a couple American breweries before starting their own. Once they felt the timing was right, they converted a former Pepperidge Farm factory into a facility that became home to a 144-seat restaurant, 70-foot-long bar and a full-scale brewery. Over time, Victory has established itself firmly as a top U.S. brewery by brewing innovative beers melding European ingredients and technology with American creativity. Victory is currently undergoing a brewery expansion that will double their production capacity when it is completed later this fall.
Alabama will be the 30th state within Victory’s national distribution footprint, and the brewery is elated to join our craft beer scene.
“We’re excited to finally sell in Alabama,” said Steve German, vice president of sales and distribution. “The craft beer fans there were passionate enough to fight and change certain laws in order to have the right to enjoy full-flavored, delicious beer in their home state. And what better way to celebrate a win, than with a Victory.”
Victory will start hitting shelves today (July 25) with the following core offerings: Golden Monkey Belgian-style Tripel, Headwaters Pale Ale, HopDevil IPA, and Prima Pils. The brewery looks to add their seasonal line-up at a later date. Piggly Wiggly Homewood will preview the four offerings listed above at a free tasting today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Stone Brewing and Victory Brewing will both be represented by International Wines & Craft Beer in Birmingham. It is not known at this time if Stone Brewing will sign with any other distributors in the state, but Victory has also signed with Allstate Beverage Company (Montgomery) and Gulf Distributing Company (Mobile).
The addition of both these breweries is a huge win for the Alabama craft beer scene, and there will be plenty of events in the near future welcoming Stone and Victory to the state. Make sure to keep an eye on this post over the next couple of weeks for updates on tasting and event information. Prost!
