Another day of heat and plenty of sunshine across central Ohio is under way! However, there is a clear definition on radar this afternoon where the “storm zone” is just west of Columbus. Numerous scattered storms have fired across Indiana and bigger complexes of severe storms are ongoing west of there. These are indications to the two “stages” that our weather will go through in the next couple of days.
While a stray shower cannot be ruled out this evening, most locations are expected to remain dry. Winds are gusting above 20 mph again this afternoon helping to make it feel a little better outside. It will be another very warm evening with temperatures in the 80s through 10 p.m. Winds will calm down overnight and skies will remain partly cloudy. The temperature will once again bottom out in the upper 60s.
As the ridge of high pressure currently in place today slides a bit east tomorrow, the atmosphere will become more conducive for thunderstorm development. While widespread rain is not anticipated, scattered thunderstorms do appear a good bet. Highs will be a few degrees cooler because of increased cloud cover but still in the middle 80s. The humidity will also increase ever so slightly on Friday.
The best chance for rain over the next seven days will occur on Saturday. More specifically, the best shot will be Saturday evening and overnight. An approaching cold front will set off several clusters of storms to our west. Scattered storm development will be possible during the afternoon hours over Ohio, however once again the rain will not be widespread at that time. A few of storms could be strong with gusty winds and hail being the primary threats. Highs will hit the middle 80s and the humidity will increase also.
The clusters of storms west of Ohio Saturday afternoon could organize into a squall line that will head east into Ohio. The exact timing of this system is still uncertain and therefore the attendant severe weather threat is as well. Should the storms move in before the overnight hours, there will be a risk for damaging winds along the line of storms. If they approach later, there will be a lower threat for severe weather as the storms weaken overnight into Sunday morning. Stay with usedview.com for the latest updates on this weather system.
Leftover showers and storms will be possible through the morning hours on Sunday. The weather will dry out later in the day and be much quieter to start out next week. Cooler air will also filter in as highs drop into the lower 70s by Monday. Lows could even dip into the 40s on Tuesday morning.
