It’s officially beach season! You have been working out much more to try and get that beach body in shape, and with all the effort you are putting in, you aren’t seeing the results you expected! Now it’s time to evaluate what could be going wrong.
1. ALCOHOL: yes, it’s summer, the time for happy hours and pool parties! But what form and what quantity of alcohol are you consuming? Beer, wine, sangria, and cocktails such as margaritas and daiquiris are what you should most definitely stay away from. These high caloric drinks are what are making you bloated and retaining water, not to mention adding on to your waste line! The best choices you can choose are a vodka/gin and soda water, or just straight shot of liquor on the rocks. If you have to do it- do it smart!
2. EXERCISE ROUTINE: you’ve been doing an hardcore full body workout 3 times a week, and cardio another 3 hours a week for your New Years resolution- guess what? IT’S BEEN 6 months! It is imperative to switch up your routine. When we have routine anywhere in our life we get comfortable and good at getting things done efficiently- just like our bodies, that’s when we need to change it up so our bodies can change too! Start by increasing the amount of reps you are doing per exercise (no more than 20) and/or once you have accomplished that trying adding more weight to what you’re doing. This way you’re muscles become like sponges and suck up that extra fat you’re trying to burn! As for cardio, change the type you are doing, or modify it. Instead of running on the treadmill, walk at a high incline to get better fat burn. Instead of an hour on the bike, do interval sprints on it for 20 minutes. Anyway you can change up your workout will accelerate changes!
3. MEALS: If you have been eating the same foods for the past 6 months in conjunction with your same monotonous workout routine, its time to change that up as well! Try trading out our protein sources for another, instead of chicken- let’s do fish! Instead of salads- let’s do broccoli! Don’t be afraid to come out of your comfort zone of your repetitive healthy meals. Now, not only will you get extra nutrients, now you will come out of your boring monotonous fog, and look forward to eating and enjoy your healthy lifestyle. Even though you are “dieting” and exercising regularly, that is no excuse to cut back on meals or cut them out completely. Remember, our metabolism is what actually burns fat, its like a furnace. In order to keep your furnace burning, you have to put in coals, or in this case FOOD! Be sure to feed your furnace every 2.5-3 hours and keep that body revved up!
