On June 8, the Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary will host a Kids Enrichment Day. If your kids love animals, or more specifically, lions and tigers, “playing” with tigers will be one of the coolest things to do in the St. Louis area this summer. During Enrichment Day, kids will make crafts that will become toys for real tigers.
Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary has become home for several tigers and exotic cats who were in need of a nurturing environment. The animals who reside within the 55-acre retreat had previously suffered neglect or abuse, but are now thriving under the love of dedicated caretakers. Part of the program designed to rehabilitate these cats includes enrichment activities, or a tiger’s version of playtime. The crafts kids make will help tigers enjoy a challenge or simply have fun.
During Kids Enrichment Day, visitors will get a tour of the sanctuary, where you’ll meet Izzy, a former circus tiger who was saved from premature euthanization; Alexis, a young lioness who was rescued from being malnourished and mistreated; and several other cats with unique stories of their own. After the tour, kids will learn about animal enrichment activities and why the tigers need them to thrive–plus be able to make some enrichment items for the cats and see their creations in action.
The tiger sanctuary will provide all the materials kids need to make their “toys” for the tigers, but if families want to bring supplies, they simply need to be from the following list. Approved items are: newspaper, magazines, perfumes, spices, meat (raw and unseasoned), phone books, boxes, toilet paper tubes, watermelons, cantaloupes, and paper bags. Instructors will show kids how to put together interesting creations that the tigers will love. Then, kids can watch as their enrichment items are thrown to the tigers and the cats discover their new playthings.
If you’re looking for a unique and fun activity for kids this summer, the Kids Enrichment Day at Crown Ridge Tiger Sanctuary will definitely rank as one of your most memorable experiences. This event cost only $10 per person or just $6 for groups of five or more. The fun begins June 8th at 1:30 p.m. at Crown Ridge in St. Genevieve, Missouri.
