The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra with conductor John Morris Russell will be serving up 3 musical treats for your Summertime enjoyment. The concerts include the following on June 8 performing with the Cincinnati Pops will be all star vocalist Capathia Jenkins and Darius de Haas doing the Music of Motown, on June 22 Broadway Night will include many of your favorite Broadway melodies with vocalist Brian Stokes Mitchell, and on July 4 Red, White and Boom in celebration of independence day.
Capathic Jenkins is a star of Broadway, Film and Television. She gain fame in the Broadway production of Newsies, and Off Broadway production of Godspell and Turn Back O Man. She has made appearances on 30 rock, The Practice, Law and Order and the Sopranos. She has vocal recording in the soundtracks of Chicago, and Legally Blonde 2, and has performed live with Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, and Pittsburgh Symphony. She has performed previously with the Cincinnati Pops for the Bond and Beyond venue last year.
Darius De Haas has performed on Broadway and various concert venues, and recordings, and The New York Times called his voice as electrically thrilling. He has previously had performed with the Cincinnati Pops with Vanessa Williams.
The Music of Motown concert with feature hit songs such as Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”, Temptations “My Girl”, Ben E. Kings “Stand by Me” ,and Sam Cooke’s “Cupid”. Additional songs will be performed will include various works inspired by the Motown greats.
Brian Stokes Mitchell a Tony Award winning artist has had great success on Broadway, in Film, and on Television. Some of his Broadway credits include Jelly Last Jam, Ragtime, and Kiss of the Spiderwoman. In film he has roles in Jumping the Broom and The Prince of Egypt. On Television he has appeared roles in Glee, Frasier Crossing Jordan, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Ugly Betty. He has performed with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra before in 2011 when he performed melodies from South Pacific, Chicago, My Fair Lady and Les Miserables.
Red White and Boom, is a Cincinnati favorite celebrating are national pride patriotism, and independence. This year the celebration also gives reverence to the 150 anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg address. The Cincinnati Pops will be joined in this concert by the May Festival Chorus and the Classical Roots Community Mass Choir. The event is followed by a outstanding fireworks show by Rozzi.
