The Media Tent started out with the Australian band Sunset Riot. They are currently on their own tour in the United States. They are two weeks into the tour and had one date cancelled because of the weather and will tour in the United States until June 29th.
There is talk about a new album in the works. When we asked about Live vs Recorded, we got the response, “Definitely live, but it is almost impossible to duplicate.” Reference was made to a comment made by Steve James, ” We are in the business of making records.” Many take it for granted that all musicians have it easy, when in fact it is difficult for some in the recording studio, “You have to think about the words and the cords at the same time.”
There are multiple stages at Rocklahoma and Shannon asked what they thought about playing at a festival that has multiple stages and the answers where amazingly sincere, “It’s great. There are more opportunities for bands like us. Do the best that we can so that people tell others and more people will listen to us next time.”
Honesty towards the fact that they are not where they want to be in their music career, “NO! Don’t know if you’ll ever be there. Always push ourselves to do better.”
When asked about their biggest achievement, they each had answers that meshed and synced together. From, “No real achievement, 1st record – maybe, fairly proud of the fact that we never thought we would get the chance to tour the US and we are on our 3rd US tour now, to creating something from nothing!”
There are many fans across the world and the fact that Social Media gives them all the opportunity to stay connected at any given moment is good and bad. I asked them about this and I was surprised at their responses, “We feel the pressure, because if it falls apart, it will affect people from around the world. It keeps us motivated, because it’s not easy to tell stories, it’s bigger than you’ll think it’ll be!” It says a lot about Sunset Riot, to think about how their music will affect others. Some musicians put the music out there and do not give a second thought as to how it may make someone else feel or respond to, but that is not the case with these men.
Sunset Riot offered some very valuable information to Bands that are just starting out, “Get out on the road. Be careful what you wish for. Family always comes first, because the Industry is so destructing on family life.”
Rocklahoma is the BIGGEST & ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE for a Rock N Roll Festival in the State of Oklahoma and it draws in bands from around the world. From day one to day three, you are in store for an amazing line up, food & fun.
