Sweet Art Gallery’s next exhibition is Friday, May 10. Titled Through the Lens, it features work by the gallery’s three leading fine art photographers, Dr. Jane Ruprecht, Mary Frances Love and Gareth Rockliffe.
Ruprecht’s photos reflect her travels to beautiful and exciting destinations in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Montana, Vermont and, of course, all around Florida. “In finalizing my pictures, I do not do more than basic fixes on the computer, so what you see is what I saw through the lens of my camera,” Dr. Ruprecht notes. “It is my hope that you will enjoy them as much as I do.”
A native of Southport England with over twenty years of experience, Gareth Rockliffe has achieved international recognition for his soulful portrait and landscape photography and has exhibited widely throughout the United States. Early in his career, the Kodak Company of the United Kingdom bought a number of his limited edition images to promote photography as a true art form to it’s public, the success of which brought about the World Wildlife Fund’s interest in using his unique images of wildlife on postal stamps.
A partner with his wife Jan Soderquist in Naples-based Soderquist Photography, the couple was recently invited to Sir Richard Branson’s private island which culminated in a wildlife publication and a highly sophisticated DVD production. Contracted by Clipper Cruise Line, Rockliffe has produced thousands of images for promotional material, gathered from the remote Kuril Islands in Russia and extending down the coast through Japan to Vietnam.
“Landscape photography became a passion for me after capturing a singular image in 1982,” Rockliffe reveals. “It was a pivotal photograph for me, as this particular day was the beginning of developing my own distinctive style. After years of shooting with film, my goal continues to be to catch the shot ‘in camera’ with minimal computer manipulation.”
