“So You Think You Can Dance” 2013 resumed July 30 on FOX with more performances by the top 14 hopefuls. In the hours leading up to the live broadcast, long-time show judge and ballroom maven Mary Murphy used her In Touch blog to dish on her very favorite finalists. So who made the cut?
At the very top of Murphy’s list were jazz dancer Amy Yakima and hip hopper Fik-Shun, whose collective “cute factor” and “likeability” she predicted will earn them both spots in the “SYTYCD” finale. The adorable duo, who have yet to appear in the bottom six, took another big step toward the finals July 30 with a spot-on, bubble gum cute Christopher Scott hip hop routine that prompted guest panelist Anna Kendrick to call Yakima her “favorite person on the planet.”
Also earning Murphy’s notice were ballroom dancer Jenna Johnson and contemporary stylist Tucker Knox, whose July 23 Travis Wall piece blew her away, and Makenzie Dustman and Paul Karmiryan, who “stepped it up a notch” during week four with a feisty hip hop number.
But Murphy’s entry wasn’t all sunshine and roses. In addition to naming her favorites, Murphy also bemoaned what she considered to be the premature exit of animator BluPrint, who she felt should’ve advanced over tapper Curtis Holland. Fortunately for Murphy, Holland sustained a shoulder injury during the July 30 rehearsals, which prevented him from performing with partner Hayley Erbert, and sealed his fate as the night’s male eliminee.
“So You Think You Can Dance” 2013 continues Aug. 6 on FOX as the remaining finalists duke it out for spots in the top 10 and the opportunity to dance alongside some of the “SYTYCD” franchise’s all-stars.
