Addison will be one delicious place to be this weekend – not that its restaurants and clubs aren’t always inviting and popular. But the town comes alive for special events, and this three-day party is all about good tastes and good times.
Friday evening, May 17, marks the kickoff of the 2013 edition of Taste Addison which continues through Sunday at 5 p.m., and offers visitors a chance to sample the best the city has to offer in the way of culinary treats, wine and cheese, chef’s demonstrations, live music, carnival rides and midway games, children’s entertainment and just all-around good times for the entire family.
Celebrity Chefs Tre Wilcox and Kent Rathbun will be featured during the weekend at the Celebrity Stage indoors at the Addison Conference Center. Demonstrations also allow guests to sample the innovative creations of these well-known local chefs. In addition, a variety of hourly presentations are planned on such subjects as proper wine and cheese pairings, and specialty samples will be available from a variety of local purveyors, including Dutchess Chocolates, Round Rock Honey and Texas Hill Country Olive Co.
Taste Addison is just one of the many weekend events planned in this popular community throughout the year, and features samplings from the menus of more than 60 local eating establishments, all offered at reduced prices and in generous servings. The list of participating restaurants runs the gamut from popular chains to one-of-a-kind ethnic establishments, from ice cream to hot wings, and from economical to expensive gourmet. The choices are part of the attraction of Addison itself. It offers something for almost everyone.
Check out Menu Offerings; it’s impossible that you will leave the event still hungry.
Entertainment also is world-class and popular among the more than 70,000 visitors to this annual event located in Addison. Performers on the Bowl Stage this year will include magicians, belly dancers and musicians presented by local restaurants; and taking to the Dos Equis Main Stage will be Breaking Southwest, Turnpike Troubadours, Prophets and Outlaws, Sister Hazel, and Tim Urban, among others.
The weekend celebration, on the grounds of Addison Circle Park, near the Dart Transportation Center on Arapaho Road, does indeed offer something for everyone, from free performances of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr., to Flair Bartending Demonstrations, from a Blazin’ Hot Wing Eating Contest, to “cooler” shopping expeditions amid the variety of arts and crafts booths, as well as the carnival atmosphere of the rides and games on the midway.
On Saturday morning, more active types may participate in a 5K/fun run prior to returning to the park to indulge in the tasting opportunities.
Many restaurants will offer complimentary “bites” along the route to participants in a fun run Saturday morning, planned to benefit the Addison Legacy Foundation. This first fun run encourages costumes for individuals and teams, and will be held in conjunction with a more serious 5K event.
The foundation has a goal of providing funding for projects and activities which will enhance the quality of life in Addison for those who live and work or visit there. The fun run begins at 8 a.m., with the 5K starting at 8:30 a.m. All participants will receive free admission to Taste Addison and a tee-shirt. Registration opens at 7 a.m., with a post- party and awards ceremony scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Numerous awards will be presented in various categories.
Hours for Taste Addison are from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday; noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission varies by day. Free parking is available.
